Competition winning scheme for 2-storey new build cafe/bar in Rotherham as part of their ongoing regeneration programme.
Approach
Stories: We began this project by imagining what stories people have of Rotherham and how the building would act as a vessel to make and hold these stories.
Views
The proposal is designed as a sophisticated mask capturing and fragmenting views of the weir and surrounding area. The cafe will become a signpost to the river and weir both at river level, street level and from above. The roof acts as a 5th elevation viewed from the new surrounding high rise residential blocks.
Procurement
The design uses off-site fabrication methods. A local company will fabricate the steel frame and corten cladding
